1089 Tama
1089 Tama is an asteroid orbiting the sun. It measures 12.9 km in diameter. It was discovered by Okuro Oikawa in 1927, and is named after the Tama River in Japan.〔Lutz D. Schmadel, ''Dictionary of Minor Planet Names'', 5th edtn. (2003), p.93.〕 In 2004, it was announced that Tama has a moon, designated S/2003 (1089) 1. The satellite was identified based on lightcurve observations from 24 December 2003 to 5 January 2004 by Raoul Behrend, René Roy, Claudine Rinner, Pierre Antonini, Petr Pravec, Alan W. Harris, Stefano Sposetti, Russell I. Durkee, and Alain Klotz. The moon is about 9 km in diameter. It may orbits 20 km away in a period of 0.6852±0.0002 days (synchronously), and Tama itself appears to be somewhat elongated in shape.〔 * (IAUC 8265 )〕 ==References==
